ROSEMARIE TROCKEL EXHIBITION
June 25th - July 31st, 1991
Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Friday 10:00-6:00
Saturday 11:00-6:00

The Stuart Regen Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of works by renowned German artist Rosemarie Trockel. In this upcoming exhibition Trockel will present new works in both the main and the auxiliary galleries.

Living and working in Cologne, Trockel has produced an eclectic, varied, and highly compelling body of work over the last decade. Confronting issues of gender and desire, her works are oddly resonant in an arena that is at once lyrical, quirky, and oftentimes frightening. From her exquisitely nuanced drawings to the oil paintings, vitrines, knit paintings, sculptures, and so on, Trockel presents an unflinching voice that refuses to dress up in dogmatism, yet remains unforgettable through the silent force of her conviction. Often working with materials or objects specific to women (e.g. “knit” paintings, “stove” sculptures, paintings of “vases,” “vessels,” etc.) Trockel manages a singular poetics which operates through suggestion and recognition.

Trockel’s new body of work in this exhibition is comprised of knit pieces based on Rorschach tests, as well as several stove works, evoking minimalist forms, that have recently evolved from standing sculptures to wall objects.

Trockel has exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States and Europe. Currently an extensive survey of her work is on view at the University Art Museum in Berkeley.

An opening reception for the artist will take place on Tuesday, June 25th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. For futher questions please contact Stuart Regen or Shaun Caley at the gallery.
